Our story

From local youth action to a structured platform for participation.

CYEI was established in 2020 through the leadership of Richardson Kyeyune and young people seeking a more organised response to barriers affecting youth and underserved communities. Early activity centred on youth meetings, skills development, leadership, community awareness and connection to support.

The organisation has since developed a clearer programme identity and stronger emphasis on digital opportunity, livelihoods, responsible civic participation, inclusion and refugee and host-community engagement.

Young people are not statistics at the edge of a programme. They are contributors, peer leaders, volunteers, innovators, storytellers and accountability partners.

How CYEI works

A practical cycle from listening to learning.

Every programme should move through a disciplined process rather than beginning with publicity or assumptions.

Listen and verify local priorities, services, risks and evidence.

Co-design with young people and community stakeholders.

Build the right partnership with clear roles, approvals and safeguards.

Deliver locally using accessible venues, peer leadership and trusted entry points.

Protect and include through consent, data protection and do-no-harm practice.

Leadership profiles use circular photo frames. Approved photographs can be added or replaced through the Admin Centre without redesigning the page.

Richardson Kyeyune

Chief Executive Officer

Known as “Chief”

Provides executive leadership, organisational representation, strategic coordination, partnership development and oversight of day-to-day operations. Within CYEI and many of the communities and teams he works with, Richardson is widely known as Chief.

Annitah Amutuhaire

Executive Director

Known as “Annitah”

Provides executive leadership, institutional coordination and accountability for CYEI. She also leads CYEI’s youth-engagement, inclusion and implementation contribution to the Uganda Generational Civic Strengthening Program (UGCSP).

Kiggundu Bernard

Youth Engagement Lead

Known as “Mgr Ben”

Supports youth mobilisation, participation, peer engagement and the practical connection between CYEI programmes and young people's priorities.

Babwiine Constantine

Communications and Digital Engagement Lead

Known as “Felix”

Supports responsible communication, digital engagement, media content and the presentation of verified CYEI programmes, stories and learning.

Nakamya Olivia

Youth Inclusion and Safeguarding Support

Known as “Olyv”

Supports inclusive youth participation, safeguarding awareness and responsible engagement within project and opportunity-access activities.

Milly Nakkungu

Community Mobilisation and Field Coordination

Known as “Meily”

Supports community mobilisation, participant coordination and field-level organisation for youth and community activities.

CYEI applies do-no-harm practice, child protection, PSEA/SEAH prevention, safe conduct, informed consent, confidentiality, data protection and accessible complaints pathways.

Accountability

Evidence should improve decisions, not only publicity.

Projects should collect proportionate, useful and protected evidence, involve participants in reviewing results, and publish verified learning alongside achievements and challenges.
