About the role
The Youth Inclusion and Safeguarding Support role will strengthen CYEI’s commitment to safe, respectful and meaningful youth participation across its programmes and community activities.
The successful candidate will work closely with the Programmes and Youth Engagement team to identify barriers affecting the participation of young women, youth with disabilities, underserved young people and other participants who may require additional support.
The role will support safeguarding awareness, informed consent, confidentiality, accessibility, participant feedback and the safe referral of protection concerns. The position holder will also help programme teams apply CYEI’s safeguarding, privacy, data-protection and inclusion procedures during mobilisation, registration, training, community engagement and public activities.
This is a part-time, on-site position supporting activities conducted in Kampala and Wakiso.
Key responsibilities
- Support the meaningful inclusion of young women, youth with disabilities and underserved young people in CYEI programmes
- Identify participation barriers and recommend practical inclusion measures
- Support safe and respectful mobilisation, registration and engagement of programme participants
- Promote awareness of safeguarding, consent, privacy and participant rights
- Help ensure that photographs, videos, testimonies and personal information are collected and used with proper consent
- Receive participant concerns and feedback in a respectful and confidential manner
- Immediately report suspected safeguarding incidents, threats, abuse, exploitation, harassment or data breaches through the approved reporting channels
- Support safe referral of participants requiring specialised protection or psychosocial assistance
- Assist programme teams to prepare accessible and youth-friendly activities
- Monitor participant attendance, engagement, retention and feedback
- Support safeguarding briefings for staff, volunteers, facilitators and participants
- Maintain accurate and confidential safeguarding and inclusion records
- Help ensure that activities are non-discriminatory, non-partisan and respectful of different backgrounds
- Support reasonable accommodations for participants with disabilities
- Participate in programme orientations, review meetings and safeguarding training
- Prepare timely activity updates and reports for the responsible supervisor
- Carry out other related youth inclusion and safeguarding duties assigned by CYEI
What we are looking for
- Diploma or bachelor’s degree in social work, social sciences, community development, psychology, education, human rights, development studies or a related field
- Demonstrated interest or experience in youth engagement, safeguarding, child protection, disability inclusion or community development
- Understanding of the needs of young women, youth with disabilities and underserved young people
- Ability to communicate respectfully with young people from different backgrounds
- Strong listening, interpersonal and problem-solving skills
- Ability to handle sensitive information confidentially and responsibly
- Understanding of informed consent, privacy and data protection
- Ability to recognize and report safeguarding concerns promptly
- Good written and spoken English
- Ability to prepare simple activity reports and maintain accurate records
- Basic computer skills, including Microsoft Word, email and online communication tools
- Ability to work on-site and support activities in Kampala and Wakiso
- Willingness to complete CYEI safeguarding and organizational orientations

- Ability to work independently and collaboratively with staff, volunteers and community stakeholders
- Previous experience working with a youth-led or community-based organization will be an added advantage
